Each student follows the Programs you give them, and can have their own reading scope.
Programs
A Program is the preparation a student follows: its milestones and, where it needs them, its own readings and preparation timing in place of your organization's. You build a Program once and give it to each student who follows it.
Your Programs are in Settings under Programs. New Program adds one. Administrators and staff with Manage Programs and Cohorts can build and change them. A Program has a Program Name, a Description and a Program Type. A B'nai Mitzvah Program counts its dates back from each student's ceremony. An Other Program has no ceremony date, so its milestones have no due dates.
Milestones are the checkpoints a student reaches, in order, such as blessings signed off or the d'var Torah finalized. Add Presets adds common milestones, and Create Custom adds your own. Each milestone can have:

What a bar or bat mitzvah reads is set for your whole organization in Settings under Ceremonies, on the Readings tab, and how early each Service is prepared on its Automation tab. On a B'nai Mitzvah Program, the Preparation tab can override either for the students on that Program:
Turning an override off returns the Program to your organization's. When what a student reads changes, they get the new passages the next time their Service is prepared or refreshed. To change one student's passages, an administrator opens the Ceremony tab of their page, chooses Edit Reading Scope in the readings menu, and picks Customize. Use Program Default switches them back. A student's own card can set a different preparation date or hold theirs. Preparation timing is used once Prepare Services automatically is on; until then, you prepare each Service yourself.
A prepared Service uses the Service Template of the Service Schedule the ceremony is on, unless you choose another when you prepare it. Its passages come from the student's reading scope. A Program's Default Service Template is used only when staff create a Service for a student by hand.
When an administrator adds students, they choose each student's Programs, up to three. A student's Programs are on the Preparation tab of their page. To group students, use a cohort, not a Program.
Students who follow the Program get the new passages the next time their Service is prepared or refreshed. Students with their own readings keep them.
